Frequently Asked Questions
Unfortunately I am no longer able to supply the USA. I have been waiting for the customs/tariffs to settle down, but there seems to be more chaos than ever. As we are going into the busy Christmas season I can only see more delays and backlogs. We are hoping this can be restored in the future. Thank you for your understanding.

I do ask that we have a quick chat before anything is returned — not to change your mind, but in case the issue can be easily resolved.

Where are you located — do you have a shop?
Nope! No shop.
I work from my home in Cumbria, but local collection can be arranged by prior agreement.

Where do your feathers come from?
All feathers come from British registered gamekeepers and are the result of birds bred for the table.

Do you pluck live birds?
Ouch — most definitely not.
Birds are taken during the legal game season, hung and plucked in a cold room, and then sent for preparation for the table.

Aftercare — what if my feathers get wet?
Ah yes… we do live in the UK ☔
If your feather gets wet:
1. Remove it from your hat or jacket.
2. Dry the base as thoroughly as possible to prevent rust.
3. Place the feather on a radiator or in a warm room.
4. Once dry, carefully hold the feather over a steaming kettle and watch the feathers return to their natural shape.
If needed, gently pull the feathers back into position — firm but never forceful.

How long have you been making feather accessories?
Over twenty years ago I moved to Aberdeenshire and fell in love with the autumn colours of the pheasant. That fascination eventually led me to creating feather pins.

How long will my feather pin last?
How long is a piece of string?
With proper care, your feather pin should last for many years. Some customers have been in touch after ten years and are still proudly wearing their Wendy Goode Original.
Of course, a new outfit may require a new style or colour — which is always a very good excuse for another!

Do you offer any guarantee?
Perhaps the best guarantee is that I’m still here — and as busy as ever — more than twenty years on.
How long your feather lasts depends on how it’s treated. Treat it mean and it may only last the event it was bought for. Give it some love and we may still be chatting about it ten years from now.
If you do experience an issue, please get in touch and we’ll see if it can be resolved.

Where do the feather bases come from?
I make them all — not just the feather part of the pin, but the bases too.
Many moons ago I completed a stained-glass course, and I still use aspects of that craft today. Whether soldering pins to spent rifle brass or making copper cones and tinning them to a silver tone, every base is individually made.
My husband helps with cutting and shaping the metal — a true team effort!

Is my feather pin upcycled?
Yes — absolutely.
While nature cannot be improved upon, it’s good knowing that the feathers I use are no longer destined for the skip.

Can I recycle my feather pin? What about the packaging?
In theory, yes. As feathers decompose, the entire pin could be placed into metal recycling.
Packaging is still a work in progress. Finding boxes deep enough to safely protect three-dimensional feathers — in three different sizes — is surprisingly difficult.
The ideal solution would be bespoke boxes, but when packaging costs more than the feather itself, it becomes a challenge. For now, the priority is ensuring your feather arrives home safely — and hopefully gives you many years of wear first.

Where can I buy my feather pin?
Right here on my website.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please get in touch — I’ll always try to oblige.
There are also a small number of outlets stocking my feather pins. Feel free to ask and I’ll happily help.
